Wenger signs new deal at Arsenal

After a season of speculation about whether Arsene Wenger would be leaving Arsenal or not he has finally signed a new two year deal. Not all fans will be happy though after many protests during the 2016-17 season demanding that he leave. They are unhappy because the team is not winning the big things – the English Premier League and the Champions League. In the 2016-17 season they won the FA Cup beating Chelsea 2-1, but ended up 18 points behind the Champions (Chelsea) and did not qualify for the 2017-18 Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

Wenger has been managing Arsenal for 21 years and led them to three Premier League titles and four FA Cups in his first nine seasons in charge. In the 2003-04 season the team did not lose all season. A remarkable achievement.
After winning the 2005 FA Cup they did not win anything for nine years. Since then the have won the FA Cup three times, but they have been falling a long way short of winning the Premier League.

It seems that Arsenal will have money to buy players during the close season, but can Wenger buy the right players he needs and get rid of those who may not fit into. Time will tell how Arsenal perform, but 2 years is not long to make the changes which might be needed to build a Premiership winning team.
