Chelsea deservedly became English Premier League Champions for the season 2016-17 on May 12 when they won 1-0 at West Bromwich Albion (WBA) with the goal coming from substitute Michy Batshuayi. The team has consistently played well, scored goals and defended solidly. The only other team who has really realistically competed for the Premier League title has been Spurs (Tottenham Hotspur) who have had a wonderful season, scoring freely, but not quite gaining enough points over the length of the season.
Chelsea’s transformation compared to the 2015-16 season has been led by a new manager, the Italian Antonio Conte, who has proved he is one of the best in the world. He has imposed his playing system on the team and players who were not performing well in the previous season have been stunning this season, most notably Hazard and Costa. The team sacked their previously successful manager Jose Mourinho who seemed to lose the confidence of the players with his arrogance and complicated mind games. He is now strutting his stuff at Manchester United.
A great season for Chelsea so far and it could get even better if they are able to beat Arsenal in the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on May 27.
