The Cherries lost 2-1 to Newcastle after an average performance by them.  AFC Bournemouth had the first chance of the game before weak defending allowed a goal from Newcastle striker Rondon. The goal gave Newcastle momentum, but the long delay due to an injury to Cherries fullback Adam Smith broke up the game.  The Cherries had a good shout for a penalty when Brooks was bundled over, but the match officials did not see it is a foul.

More weak defending from the Cherries allowed Kenedy to cross for Rondon to head in his second after 39 minutes.  Bournemouth pulled one back from a Lermar header in first half-injury time and this set the game up for a more exciting second half.

The Cherries dominated the second half and had one goal disallowed and created several other chances. They had several chances to shoot during the period, but often chose to pass instead.  It must be said that Newcastle also created some good chances during the game and Cherries keeper, Begovic, made some fine saves.
