AFC Bournemouth went to local rivals Southampton and won for the first time ever. The 3-1 win was quite comfortable and was set up in the first half when they completely controlled the game. The Cherries started well when after 10 minutes Nathan Aké powerfully headed in from a corner. The lead was doubled when a slick move down the left saw Billing pull back a perfect ball to Harry Wilson who swept in the ball from just inside the box. The Cherries even scored a third through Joshua King who was ruled very narrowly offside by VAR.
The Saints (Southampton) came out a little stronger and Ward-Prowse scored from the penalty spot after Steve Cook had made a clumsy challenge on Che Adams. This was a debatable penalty. The Cherries thought that they should have had a penalty when Joshua King was brought down, but nothing was given.
The game was sealed with practically the last kick of the game when Gunn the Southampton keeper and defender Bednarek misunderstood each other allowing Callum Wilson in to make it 3-1. A fine victory!
