Every football team playing in England has a nickname and some have more than one. My team, AFC Bournemouth’s nickname is the Cherries. It seems a somewhat strange nickname to call a football team after a fruit and there are 2 main stories as to why AFC Bournemouth are called the Cherries.
One story goes that the ground Dean Court (now called the Vitality Stadium) was built on some cherry orchards. The other story is that the team wore Cherry red shirts. It doesn’t really matter where the name comes from as all fans call them the Cherries! Up the Cherries!
