Living more than 5,000 kilometres away from your city means that you don’t get to see too many games each year. The distance challenge is also compounded by the fact that Bournemouth has by far the smallest ground(stadium) in the English Premier League and so getting a hold of tickets Is not easy.
A good friend, who is a longtime season ticket holder, thought that that he had managed to get me tickets for the home game against Middllesborough and I had planned taking my niece(my brother and nephew are also season ticket holders). I was due to fly to England to arrive the day before the game(Friday), but on Wednesday my friend called to say that he had been let down and did not have the tickets. He did have some good news though. He had to go to a family wedding and so gave me his ticket.
So I flew from Montreal to Amsterdam on Thursday night, and then changed planes to fly to Southampton which is then only a 30 minute train journey to my mother’s house. A quick lunch, then met my friend in the pub for some good English beer at 17:00 and then he gave me my ticket.
It was then time for the Saturday pre-match home game ritual, My family came around to my mother’s house and we had a traditional English breakfast followed by a drive to the Cricketeers pub for good English beer. Then it was match time and a very stromg performance against a very weak Middlesborough, The 4-0 win was reflective of the difference between the teams!
