Jermain Defoe came on as a late substitute and equalised for Bournemouth in the the 92nd minute. A draw was probably a fair result with neither team shining. Bournemouth created a couple of early chances, including hitting the bar from a powerful header by Aké, before Watford took the lead in the 13th minute through poor defending by the Cherries which allowed Femenia to score.
Both teams created some half chances before a fine save by the Watford keeper from a Stanislas shot was then handled by Watford defender Holebas and a penalty awarded. The suicidal piece of defending allowed King to equalise from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute.
More poor defending by Bournemouth in the 49th minute allowed Pereyra to score and give Watford the lead again. As the game wore on the Cherries pushed harder for an equaliser and in the 92nd minute a long ball was headed onto Defoe who was in the penalty area and he clinically swept his shot into the net. A welcome return for Defoe who has been out since December with an injury.
Defoe holds the Premier League record of scoring in the 90th minute or later – 15 times in his career!
