AFC Bournemouth put in their best performance of the season and yet somehow were unable to score despite total domination. The Cherries started well and should have had a penalty when Defoe’s shot came off the bar and Pugh steered it back towards the goal. The ball was going in until it hit the hand of the Leicester defender Simpson. They should have had a penalty and Simpson could well have been sent off. Neither the referee or the linesman saw the handball.
Bournemouth created chances throughout the match, but just could not put the ball into the Leicester net. Leicester almost stole a win with the best chance of the match falling to Japan international, Okazaki, who passed the ball wide from 8 metres out.
Bournemouth will rue the fact that they could not get more than a point from this game, but the level of performances by all players and the team overall was much better than any other game this season. The man of the match was Lewis Cook who was brought into the team and was exceptional.
