The Cherries started the season with a comfortable win against newly promoted Cardiff City. With the exception of 15 minutes in the second half Bournemouth completely dominated the game. The Cherries got off to a flying start when the ‘wee man’ Ryan Fraser scored after 24 minutes. He continued to perform well and was duly awarded the Man of the Match award.
The lead should have been doubled shortly afterwards when ‘goal machine’ Callum Wilson was brought down and AFC Bournemouth were awarded a penalty. Wilson’s weak effort was saved by Neil Etheridge and the score remained at 1-0. The Cherries continued to dominate the game, but could not get the second before the break.
In the second half Cardiff created some half chances, but the Cherries finished them off for good in the 91st when Wilson scored.
A great start for the Cherries who played well, including summer signing David Brooks who should have headed in.
