The 1986-87 promotion winning Bournemouth team were reunited at the Vitality Stadium (Dean Court) on March 18 2017. The team were welcomed onto the pitch at half-time and given a rapturous welcome.
30 years ago Bournemouth were playing in the Third Division and the writer was a young man living near Bournemouth and supporting his local team. The 1986-87 season proved to be one of the best in the history of the team with the team getting promoted on the second to last game of the season at Fulham (in London). It was a great day travelling up to the match with friends on the 2 train journey from Bournemouth. The train was full of fans singing and drinking beer in anticipation of the big game ahead. The singing and drinking continued as we went to a couple of pubs before walking to Craven Cottage, the Fulham stadium, next to the River Thames.
I don’t remember who scored that day(too much beer?), but do remember it was a convincing win and we certainly enjoyed the journey back to the south coast from London.
